Xbox 360 Problems? Read This Before Taking Action

If you are having xbox 360 problems and try to research the problem online, you are likely to be bombarded with information regarding how to fix your xbox. So, what exactly can go wrong with your xbox 360? I did some research, and here is what I found.

The most common problem that I found was xbox 360 overheating. overheating is the main cause of the game you are playing freezing up. It is suggested that to avoid overheating, you do the following:

  • Place the power supply in a well ventilated area. That means keep it off of the floor, out of a cabinet, etc. These PSU's tend to get out, so it is best to keep it from getting too hot.
  • DO NOT plug your xbox 360 power supply into a cheap power strip. They like good, clean power. It is best to use either a wall outlet, or a high quality surge protector.
  • Make sure the xbox 360 itself is well ventilated. We want this unit to be exposed to as much air as possible, so, like the power supply, make sure it is not inside a cabinet. You might also want to try keeping it far enough away from the back of your TV, or other sources of heat.

The second most common problem is related to the GPU (General Processing Unit), which is basically the CPU. I found that as the xbox 360 heats up, the soldering can become loose and separate from the motherboard. This is actually a well known problem on older units. Once this happens, you will be greeted by the infamous 3 red light error (The Red Ring of Death!)

If you are ever faced with the xbox 360 3 red light error, you should call microsoft and check to see if it is still covered under warranty. Because they admitted there was a fault with a system, they extended coverage for 3 years for units displaying the 3 red light error. Be aware that if you ship your system to microsoft, you could wait as long as 2 months to get it back.
